Synopsis

Pod thinks that the people are hiding in the church. When he finds out that they are not he still thinks that God is a gooid thing that they should keep to themselves. He then learns that you can't out-give God and that he loves everyone, inside or out.

NB power points with intros feature a old fashioned movie-style leader countdown with 'pearl & dead' sound track. This is simply an attention grabber for when the Pod sketch has been an unannounced opener for a service. Only summer versions are available here (there are also winter versions to match the conditions outside the venue).

'Why Tell Others?'                                                         by Martin Day

Standard introduction and entrance (Compere talking is interrupted by spaceship landing sound effects, I think I can hear a spaceship landing, lets look at the outside security camera. Overlay external photo of school with spaceship slide, landing. OHP off. Look here he is, it's our friend Pod the Spaceman, arriving from another world. Spaceman enters)

Hello Pod, I haven't seen you for a while...
Shhhh!
What wrong?
Shhhh: BE QUIET!
Why should ...
Shhhh!
(whispering) Why should I be quiet?
They'll hear you
Who will?
The people outside
What people outside?
All the people who aren't inside
Does it mater if they hear us?
(loudly) Well don't ask me! You're the ones who hide in here every week!
But we're not hiding Pod. We only meet in here because it's practical. We've got power, and toilets, and a roof to keep the rain off.
You mean you don't mind if people know that you're worshipping God?
No, we don't mind at all, we think Jesus is great, and we don't mind who knows it.
(Gasp) No! Stop! Just listen to yourself. What are you saying!? If everybody knew how good Jesus is then... then... Well, you wouldn't be able to keep them away, would you.
But why would we want to keep them away?
Well there's lot's of reasons...
Like what?!
Well, they would get in the way. It would be too crowded in here.
So we'd find somewhere bigger.
But you would have to share all the good things that God's given you, and there wouldn't be as much for yourself
No, no you've got that all wrong. The more that we give to others, the more that God gives back to us. Jesus has enough love for everyone in the World.
OK, but I'm sure some of them would be strange, and I wouldn't like them.
Strange! Pod, how can you say that with those eyebrows!...Anyway we have lots of strange people already, and we don't get along too bad.
Mmm, that's certainly true. OK so you've a point, but what about the people who won't believe in Jesus. What about them? They'll think that you're strange; and creepy.
Yes, you're right. It can be hard if people don't like you. But the fact is that we can't live our whole life trying to please other people. It can't be done, and it leaves you with nothing. But we can live to please Jesus. After all Jesus loves each one of us completely, he's given us everything, He even died an awful death, so that we wouldn't have to. So if we want to please anyone, it's Jesus. And anyway, it's Jesus who wants us to tell everyone of the great things He's done for them. Because He loves everyone outside of this church as must as each one of us.
Wow, I think I must have forgotten how great God is. I guess I was thinking just about myself. I suppose that a lot of you wouldn't be here today if somebody hadn't told you about Jesus
Yes, that's worth thinking about. Wouldn't it be great if we could do the same for someone else
Oh yes, that would be just wonderful! I've learnt something really important today, that it's worth telling others about the love of Jesus, even if you risk things getting uncomfortable, because Jesus can make such a wonderful difference in anyone's life. And I can't believe that I forgot how great God is. How could that happen!? Oh well, I'd better be going. I hope now, that there'll be a few more of you, when I come to see you next time. Good-bye.

Standard exit (leaves. Spaceship takes off on OHP overlay to accompanying sound effects through PA.)
