Pod doesn't understand how Jesus hears our prayers when He lives in heaven. His is intrigued that we can pray silently and alarmed that He even knows our thoughts. But he learns that it makes his love even more secure when we realise he knows the worst about us but still loves us,

ShallowDeep visitor count:
'God knows everything' by Martin Day Standard introduction and entrance (spaceship landing sound effects) I think I can hear a spaceship coming, lets look. Yes I recognise that shape. There's only one spaceship like that. It must be Pod coming to visit us from another world. (Spaceman enters) Good day, Church-lings Hello Pod, it's good to see you again. How are you today? I'm feeling just ... puzzled. That's no big surprise. What is it that's puzzling you? Well, I'm glad you asked me that ... You know were Jesus lives don't you? Yes. In Heaven (irritated) Yes, I knew that. That wasn't my question. If Jesus lives in heaven, then how can hear you when you pray? I mean heaven is a long way off isn't it. Well yes, but it's not that hard to understand, is it? Remember that we hear people talking from a long way off every day. On the television, or the radio, or the telephone. So is not hard to see how Jesus can hear us when we pray. Even when you pray really, really quietly? Yup. In fact he can even hear us when we just think our prayers. No! You mean that you can pray without even talking! Yes. You don't even have to move your lips, if you don't want to. Oh. I don't think I could manage that! ... But how is that kind of praying different from just thinking? Well it's not that different at all really, it just depends who you are thinking to. Of course Jesus can hear the ordinary thoughts as well. No! But that's awful! I wouldn't want God to hear all my thoughts, I mean, some of them, well some of them aren't nice. Oh dear. But Pod, it's wonderful to know that Jesus hears everything That's easy for you to say. You obviously don't think any bad thoughts. (both pause to look at congregation) Oh no. Pod, you don't understand. I'm just like you. I think bad things sometimes too. But there's nothing that Jesus doesn't know about me. So when he says that he loves me, I know that he means it. And nothing can shake a love as deep as that. Wow! That just amazing. If someone loved me that much, it would just make me want to love them back Yes Pod, that's the way it works. When you know how much Jesus loves you, you want to do, and think the things that will make Him proud of you That's a big love. Really big. You know I've learn something really important today, that Jesus hears every prayer, and even though he knows the worst about you, He still loves you. I won't forget that, and you shouldn't forget it either. Well I must go now. I'll see you again soon. Standard exit (leaves. Spaceship takes off on OHP overlay to accompanying sound effects through PA.) © M Day 21-Sep-1999
